Tragically, Hans Limburg died in 2013.
His friends, colleagues and musicians from around the world miss him and his music immensely.

Whoever doesn`t like samba is not a healthy person.
There`s either something wrong upstairs or his feet ache.

Dorival Caymmi (from ”Samba da Minha Terra”)

About Hans Limburg

Hans Limburg at Jazzclub B-flat Berlin
At the age of ten, Hans Limburg began to play the classical guitar. Through the compositions of Heitor Villa-Lobos, he got to know Brazilian music for the first time. He was strongly influenced by Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66, Baden Powell and João Gilberto. After many sessions in clubs in the 80s and 90s, he founded the band projects “Brasil Nativo”,“Via Brasil” and “Alegria”. Having moved to Berlin, he collaborated with a wide variety of musicians and made many radio, TV and CD recordings.

Important milestones in his musical career were courses with artists such as the “New York Voices”, Mili Bermejo, Judy Niemack, Nelson Faria and Célia Vaz.

In 1999, he released the CD “Generation99” with guitarist and composer Tobias Langguth on which one can hear their own songs, bossa standards, songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Roberto Menescal and beat bossa arrangements of international standards.

In 2001 Hans Limburg took part as a singer in the Brazilian Carnival project “Sapucaiu no Samba”, which was the winner of the “Karneval der Kulturen” in Berlin. The next year, his group “Planetão” won first prize in the “Forum brasiliansicher Künstler in Berlin” competition.

BELEZA MERMÃO! TÁ LIGADO, HEIN?

In 2003 he taught Brazilian music at the “Hanns Eisler” Music Academy in Berlin. In the same year, percussionist Volker Conrath’s “Bloco Explosão” was the winner of the Carnival competition in Berlin, with Hans Limburg on voice and guitar.
With “Trio Cupuaçu” he recorded the CD of the same name with Volker Conrath, percussion and Thomas Walter Maria, saxophone and flute. The repertoire consists mainly of tunes of their own, alongside Brazilian classics.
“Planetão – live at quasimodo” is the name of the CD, that Hans Limburg recorded with the quintet “Planetão” in Berlin at the end of 2003, with Brazilian standards by Tom Jobim, Marcos Valle and others.

This is a highly enjoyable album by an artist who devoted his musical talent with love to the music culture of Brazil.

Journal Porto Alegre, Brasilien

The German musicians Stephan Hitzelberger and Hans Limburg are strong advocates of Brazilian popular music, not just as a hobby but for real! Not only do they believe in its strength, richness and beauty, but they said it has transformed their way of thinking, living and feeling.

Ibanez Lemos, June 1987

Die Rheinpfalz

With his extraordinary feeling for rhythmical and harmonic sophistication, he delighted the audience.

WDR

One of Germany’s best Bossa Nova singers and guitarists.

Saarbrücker Zeitung

The guitar playing with its complex fingering across the entire board was simply enchanting, the elastic, soulful vocals have gained even more authenticity

He gives this feather-light popular music hot-blooded moments, makes it tingle and crackle.

Darmstädter Echo

A highly gifted guitarist and singer.

Guest Appearance

Groovy Brazilian Bossa Novas, graceful sambas and international standards, mixed with Brazilian jazz, form the repertoire of singer, guitarist and composer Hans Limburg.

With his “extraordinary feeling for rhythmic and harmonic elegance and virtuosity” (press) he inspires every audience.

It is of particular importance to Hans Limburg to play and interpret authentic Brazilian music from the rich “Música Popular Brasileira” (MPB) repertoire alongside the well known cliché carnival songs. More and more he is writing his own songs, composed around his own acoustic guitar playing. He offers courses for brazilian music, likes very much to blend jazz elements with Brazilian music and is collaborating with jazz musicians and musicians of the brazilian scene.

São as águas de março fechando o verão. É a promessa de vida no teu coração
